What is Bantuan Awal Persekolahan?
To alleviate the financial strain on parents or guardians during the school year’s start, Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP), or Early School Assistance, was introduced in 2012. Initially available to students from Year 1 to Form 5, or their equivalents, this aid was extended to households with an annual income of RM3,000.00 or less.
In the previous Budget 2023, the government proposed offering RM150 in early school assistance to every student, regardless of their financial background. Under the leadership of PM Anwar Ibrahim, the Unity Government implemented this initiative. For 2024, the government has allocated RM788 million to support Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP), aiming to alleviate the financial strain on parents or guardians by covering upfront education expenses.
Bantuan Awal Persekolahan Registration
Starting January 11, 2024, the Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) allotment is credited to school accounts, with schools instructed to distribute it simultaneously to pupils. Upon completion of the registration process, BAP awards will be introduced for Year 1 students enrolling in school in March 2024.
No application is required for specific schools, as all students are eligible, and the award is independent of parents’ financial information in the APDM (Pupil Database Application). Additionally, many educational institutions will provide PB1 (APPLICATION FOR SCHOOL AID) and PB2 (INCOME VERIFICATION) forms. It’s essential to note that the aid program is exclusively available to Malaysian students.

Who is Eligible?
Eligible students for Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) must meet the following criteria:
a) Hold Malaysian citizenship
b) Attend classes at one of the following institutions: Government-Aided School (SBK), Government Schools (SK), Government-Registered Private Schools, Religious School, Integrity School, Love Bonding Guidance School, or Henry Gurney School.
c) Come from families with a GROSS monthly income of RM3,000.00 or less in the current school year, spanning Year 1 through Form 5 or its equivalent. The calculation includes only the base pay and fixed allowances in the monthly gross income.
The BAP Aid is directly deposited into the Government Fund Account (KWK) of the school or, for schools without a KWK Account, the Special Account (PPD) of the District Education Office. The disbursement is done in phases by the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM).
