With so many gamers absolutely loving this thrilling take on multiplayer gaming it’s of course no surprise that most developers are trying to get a piece of that cake, and while the COD franchise wasn’t as successful with its first attempt (Call of Duty: Blackout) they’ve now definitely hit the mark with Warzone.
Tons of gamers boot the game each day to try and get a taste of victory, and with the game showing no signs of slowing down we thought it was high time to set our analysts loose on it.
We’ve gone ahead and evaluated the performance of current GPUs and collected all of our findings in this article to help you decide on your next purchase.

What makes a GPU good for Call of Duty: Warzone?
A computer’s graphics processing unit (GPU) is responsible for displaying images on a monitor. Depending on how powerful your GPU is, you’ll be able to produce graphics that are both detailed and fast and fluid. It’s true that the most powerful graphics cards can handle today’s most graphically demanding games, but for competitive gaming, it’s not actually the main reason to get one of these cards.
If you want to be a competitive gamer, acquiring a high framerate (and a high refresh rate display) actually does provide you a number of benefits in the game. Of course, the smoothness and clarity of the image you see is improved by playing on a monitor that can display all of these frames, but the benefits don’t end there. Faster response times are another benefit of higher framerates, which can spell the difference between a victory and a loss at higher levels.
Fortunately, most games don’t require the most up-to-date GPU to run smoothly. Almost every professional player reduces a lot of in-game settings (click here to view our settings guide for Warzone) in order to attain higher framerates (and also because some settings that are designed to make the game more beautiful can be annoying). Although Warzone isn’t exactly an easy game to run in terms of framerate optimization, you’ll need to fork over a lot of money if you want to get the best possible framerate out of this one.
For sure, you’ll want to ensure that the game can operate at a minimum of 144 frames per second. Only 1% of the professionals we studied still play at 60 frames per second on any of their games. Almost everyone else is running at 144 FPS or above, with more than half of them using a 240 FPS setup. 144 FPS is also a possibility if you’re on a tight budget, although there are diminishing rewards when it comes to framerates.
As a competitive player, framerates are critical, so we’ll be focusing on 1080p performance in this article. We’ll also include this in their respective entries: 1440p gaming is now possible with the highest tier cards.
Nvidia’s Reflex
It’s not just that games with higher frame rates look better. Prioritizing frame rates has a number of benefits that go beyond the visual clarity you gain. For example, as your frame rate increases, your system’s latency decreases. You’ll lose ground in a race against the clock if your system’s latency (or the latency of a peripheral device like a mouse or keyboard) is excessive.
Because it uses Nvidia’s Reflex Low Latency Technology, Call of Duty: Warzone’s designers collaborated with Nvidia on implementing new latency-reducing technology and measuring your system’s latency to uncover any potential problems. If you’re serious about gaming and/or simply want to perform at your peak capacity at all times, you should strive to keep your latency as low as possible. The GeForce 900 series and higher can use this technology. Keep in mind, however, that the Reflex Latency Analyzer can only be used with compatible gear.
Going with Nvidia
If we take a look at the GPUs that our examined pros are utilising, there appears to be only one manufacturer. Nvidia cards are in almost every professional gamer’s rig, therefore that’s what we’ve chosen for this piece as well.
In addition, we’ve selected to use cards that are still being made. If you can find an earlier card at a sale or second-hand from a seller you can trust, there’s definitely a case to be made for using it. However, as this is a pretty unreliable method of obtaining gear, we’ve decided to exclude any cards that are no longer in production.
Keep in mind that your in-game settings and the rest of your system (CPU, RAM,…) will have a significant impact on your average frame rate, thus these estimates should be treated with caution.

When playing at higher refresh rates in Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll be limited in what you can do. If you’ve recently adopted a 360-Hz panel, you’ll want to get the most powerful graphics card you can afford, but even the most powerful cards can’t consistently deliver those frames. As a result, the RTX 3080 is our top pick for anyone looking to play Warzone at a high level. Even though it can’t keep up with the speed of a 240Hz monitor at all times, it is the greatest alternative for those who have a 240Hz display.
When playing at high resolutions, this is the card to get. This card is also a fantastic choice for those who use a 1440p 144Hz monitor, as it will consistently maintain 144 frames per second even during the most intense sequences.
2. Rtx 3060 Ti
This is the card to get if you want to play games at 144 frames per second. It consistently exceeds 144 frames per second and only drops a few frames below that during dips, so you can expect a silky smooth gaming experience from this GPU (large fluctuations in framerate can look and feel bothersome). It’s up to you whether or not you’re aiming for the 144-point milestone.
Although the 3060 Ti doesn’t hit 144 frames per second on average at 1440p, it still manages to maintain a good frame rate. We do recommend the 3070 or higher if you plan on playing at 1440p and want a better refresh rate.
3. Rtx 3070
When it comes to getting the most bang for your buck, the RTX 3070 is your best bet. If you’re looking for a way to play at 1080p 144Hz with ease, this is the best option for you. This should be an easy buy if you’re looking for that kind of framerate and performance.
People who want to play at 1440p 144Hz on a budget might also consider this alternative. On average, the RTX 3070 is able to maintain a frame rate of at least 144 fps, albeit it does go below that threshold during really stressful situations.
The budget option
If you’re creating a new PC from scratch, it may make sense to go with a more budget-friendly setup because it’s difficult to consistently hit 240 frames per second in Call of Duty: Warzone. When money is tight, we always suggest aiming for higher framerates, but if you only intend to play this game and don’t want to spend a lot on high-end graphics cards and monitors, this RTX 3060 is an excellent pick. Despite its average frame rate of less than 144 fps, this is a card that will not let you down.
It’s no surprise that this card is the weakest in the 30 series lineup so far, but it’s wonderful that it doesn’t fall below 144 frames per second. There are no unsettling drops because the framerate never drops below 100, which is why this is a perfect budget card for those who wish to play games at the 144 frames per second setting. While the 3060 Ti is our recommended “affordable performance,” this will suffice for those who cannot afford (or want not to spend) the extra money.

On our list of studied games, Call of Duty: Warzone is neither the heaviest nor the lightest. There are a number of reasons for this, and you’ll want to keep an eye out for them.
Things get a little bit easier if you want a 144Hz display; if you’re ready to drop your graphical settings, there are a number of inexpensive solutions that will make the most of your expensive panel with less effort.
However, like with other PC components, a well-balanced setup is essential. If you’re on a tight budget, skipping the RTX 3080 in favour of a lower-end CPU and a 144 Hz monitor isn’t a good idea.
